In celebration of RiaN’s fifth year of mobilizing research by our Faculty of Education researchers, this issue features a new and refreshing look. We invite you to explore this issue to learn about current research on assessment unfairness, how teachers engage in online learning, COVID-19 disruptions to alternative teaching placements, and education for global competence. The EDI Coordinator, in consultation with the Teacher Candidates of Colour, curated a collection of resources for teachers to use as they bring Black history into their classrooms during Black History month, and throughout the year.
2021 brought new challenges and opportunities as we navigated another year impacted by COVID. At the Faculty of Education, we continued to research, teach, and learn through another pandemic year.
Educators play a strong role in supporting and advancing student mental health. The Classroom Champions in Mental Health program is a student-led initiative, responding to both student feedback and clear research calling for increased mental health promotion in academics.
Classroom Champions in Mental Health recognizes and celebrates professors, instructors and TAs who create supportive learning environments where student mental health is valued and supported.
Welcome to the first edition of the Queen’s Faculty of Education Dean’s Review. This annual publication aims to engage and inform alumni and the education community about the activities, goals, and accomplishments at our Faculty.
Social responsibility is our centre of gravity at the Faculty of Education. In recent years, we have articulated a desire to emphasize the role of education in promoting and developing Indigenous education and knowledge, and equity, diversity, and inclusion in our teaching and research.
The year 2020 was unlike any in recent memory, bringing the Faculty of Education community together in unexpected ways. Online classes, meetings on Zoom, and virtual breakout rooms impacted how we teach, learn, and research.
