I started the PME Program in September 2020 and will be completing my last two courses this August. Although I initially got accepted into the Classroom Specialist concentration, I changed it to Literacy Education. This was one of the best professional decisions I’ve ever made.
In July, we welcomed Dr. Kerstin Merz-Atalik, Professor in the Department of Special Education at the Ludwigsburg University of Education in Germany. The visit was funded by the Principal’s Development Fund in support of our existing partnership with Ludwigsburg University of Education.

The Council of Ontario Universities (COU) recently announced the 2022 winners of the Autism Scholars Award. Queen’s Faculty of Education doctoral student Alexandra Minuk is one of the 2022 recipients.
Minuk’s research looks at barriers to accessing autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. By looking at multiple variables the research will help identify regions in Ontario that need more support and could influence where resources get allocated.
The new Advanced Leadership for Social Impact Fellowship (ALSI) prepares leaders to confront complex social issues. This first-in-Canada program provides the tools, knowledge, and networks participants need to tackle the root causes of problems – from housing affordability to climate change.
Faculty of Education Associate Dean Dr. Ted Christou is a Co-Director of the program alongside Dr. Jean-Baptiste Litrico, Director of the Centre for Social Impact at Queen’s. Christou helped develop this inter-disciplinary program by supporting both the program and curriculum design.
After leading so many amazing Science Rendezvous events here in Kingston, our own Professor Emerita of Elementary Mathematics, Lynda Colgan, has accepted the position of Executive Director of Education and Development for the national organization of Science Rendezvous. Congratulations, Lynda!
Duncan McArthur Hall will be completely closed between August 15-26, 2022.
The closure is taking place so that the power system at Duncan McArthur Hall can be upgraded. During this time there will be no electricity in the building. Please note that there will be no access to the building as fire alarm systems and life-saving devices will not be operational.
