About the Author

Mandy Taylor smiles against a white wall wearing a white shirt. My name is Mandy Taylor, I am a mixed-race woman from the Niagara Region in Ontario Canada. In the summer of 2024, I was awarded the USSRF research fellowship award and was provided an opportunity to both research and publish a very overlooked area in History. Black history in Canada and in my town has been underfunded and under-researched leaving our black pioneers' stories in the shadows. As a mixed race child in the region, I grew up learning half of my history, missing out on quite a rich one at that. I took this opportunity to leave the Niagara region school boards with no excuse to not include and be able to customize black history lessons. I hope that one day this resource plan can be modified and adapted so that all Canadian teachers in any region can customize their black history lessons.
