Jasper Preece in ThailandTORF was the perfect opportunity to start my search for a career after graduating my Bachelor of Education. I knew that I wanted to live and work abroad, but was overwhelmed by how this was going to be accomplished. When I heard about TORF, I had a glimpse of hope that it might be a way to get some information on the whole process and maybe even come out of the weekend with some job options. After a few informative sessions by various speakers, a wonderful reception, and a grand total of eight interviews, I left TORF exhausted and inspired. As excited as I was about potentially coming away from the weekend with a solidified contract, I was actually pleased that some schools gave me a week to come up with a response. In the end, I had a second interview with some of the administration from the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh which went well and left both parties more informed about each other, meaning we were able to confirm the contract about ten days after TORF. The extra time allowed me to research my options more intensely, talk to friends and family, review the contract more fully, and think of further questions for the recruiters/administration.

The whole experience of researching schools/countries, contacting potential employers, interviewing with recruiters, waiting for replies, and making connections was something simultaneously exciting and overwhelming. Sitting at my school desk writing this out reminds me of the feeling I felt at TORF as a professional about to enter my career in the most exciting way possible, in a new country at an international school. Now that I am living out my goal for my life and career, I have to thank TORF for the opportunity to make that dream a reality.
