Workshops

Thinking Ethics

This session provides an exploration of Research Ethics Basics, delving into the essential principles that govern ethical research involving human participants. Participants will navigate the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS2), gaining a nuanced understanding of ethical guidelines specific to Canadian research contexts. By the end of this workshop, attendees will be equipped with a solid foundation in research ethics and TCPS2 principles.

Meera Sidhu

Meera Sidhu is the Research Ethics Manager at Queen's University, a professional at the forefront of ethical research practices. As a subject matter expert, Meera ensures that all stakeholders are well-informed about the evolving consent processes, ethical guidelines, and the comprehensive policies and procedures that govern research ethics.
 
Meera holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, showcasing her proficiency in managing research projects with precision and efficiency. Complementing her project management skills, she earned a Master of Science degree in Neuroscience from Wayne State University.

Careers Beyond Academia

Jenny Lee Northey is currently a Graduate Coordinator in the Faculty of Education and was previously a Career Educator and Coach in Career Services, with a focus on international and equity-deserving students. Her session will focus on exploring career options and strategies for graduate students outside of the academic field.

Turning your Thesis into a Manuscript

Dr. Ian Garner manages the SASS outreach team, workshops, and campus-wide programs. His session will focus on how students can turn their thesis into a publishable manuscript.

Citation Management Tools Simplified

Looking for ways to make collecting and organizing your sources and creating your bibliography less cumbersome and more efficient? Education Librarians Brenda Reed, Nathalie Soini and Shelley Woods will provide an overview of using EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley to do just that. Learn about opening an account, adding sources to, and searching content from within the citation manager, inserting citations into Word, and automatically generating a bibliography in the format of your choice.

Brenda Reed (she/her), MA, MLIS, MEd
 
Brenda has worked at the Education Library at Queen’s in several capacities, most recently as the Head of the department.  She is also the liaison librarian for the Primary Junior teacher candidates in the BEd program and supports graduate research in Education.

Nathalie Soini

Nathalie Soini (she/elle) BA, MA, MLIS
 
Nathalie has had many roles at Queen’s University Library since 2003.  She joined the Education Library in November 2022. She is the liaison librarian for French as a Second Language (PJ and IS) as well as the liaison librarian for the Intermediate Senior teacher candidates in the BEd program. She is the liaison librarian for the School of English and supports graduate research in Education.

Shelley Woods (she/her), MLIS, BEd
 
Shelley is a teacher and librarian with over 25 years of experience.  She is the Liaison Librarian for Community-based Indigenous Teacher Education, Concurrent Education, Continuing Teacher Education & Professional Studies, Graduate Diploma in Education, MEd in World Indigenous Studies in Education and the Professional Master of Education at Queen’s University.
