Dr. Theodore Christou is a Professor of Education History at Queen’s University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours and a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto and a PhD from Queen’s University. His academic work centers on the history and philosophy of education, with a particular focus on the evolution of curriculum and pedagogy.

Dr. Christou has held senior academic leadership positions that reflect his commitment to graduate education and research. He served as Dean of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Ontario Tech University and as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University. These roles allowed him to advance institutional priorities while fostering scholarly engagement and supporting graduate students in their academic pursuits.

As a historian, Dr. Christou’s research explores the tensions between progressivism and traditionalism in education. His publications, which include numerous articles and books, examine how ideas of teaching and learning have developed across different periods and contexts. His work seeks to connect historical insights with contemporary debates in education, contributing to a deeper understanding of how education shapes and is shaped by society.

In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Christou is an active member of professional organizations such as the Canadian History of Education Association and the Ontario College of Teachers. Through his service to the academic community, he continues to engage in conversations that address both historical and contemporary issues in education.

Dr. Christou welcomes opportunities to supervise graduate students and collaborate with researchers in the fields of educational history, philosophy, and curriculum studies.
