Queen’s Faculty of Education is pleased to be welcoming over 60 Technological Education teachers from around the province to take part in the Technological Education Board Leads of Ontario Winter Symposium hosted by the Ontario Council for Technology Education (OCTE) this Friday (February 2).

Early last year, the Ontario Government announced that starting in September 2024, all high school students will be required to take a mandatory technological education class to earn their diploma.

Queen’s has been working closely with the Ontario Council for Technology Education to train teachers to help teach these classes through their Technological Education programs - with both an on-campus and blended version of the program available. These programs provide a pathway for those who have work experience in the trades to earn a Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education in one of many broad-based technological areas that are taught in Ontario schools in Grades 9-12.

Ena Holtermann, professor of Technological Education at Queen's University said of the Winter Symposium, "The 2024 Teacher Education Board Leads Winter Symposium brings together members of our Faculty of Education and the Ontario Council for Technological Education. This event marks a significant gathering of school board leaders in Technological Education across the province, many of whom are alumni of our Technological Education teacher education program. It's an honour to welcome back these accomplished graduates to their alma mater for this conference. This gathering underscores our faculty's commitment to advancing technological education while fostering leadership and innovation in STEM and STEAM education."
