Advice for new students
My advice for new students would be to take every opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions with your peers and professors. Though the program is asynchronous, you have a learning community to support you every step of the way. There is so much meaningful content to absorb and connect back to your professional context. Remember that it is not a race to the finish line and pace yourself!
How do you fit this program into your life?
I finished the PME program last Fall and crossed the convocation stage this June. During my two and a half years in the program, I balanced a course per semester while juggling multiple jobs, other courses, and the daily chaos that life brings. Something that always helped me when beginning any new course, was creating a calendar for myself of due dates and assignment details. I would dedicate weekday evenings for the readings and discussion boards. Weekends were for completing assignments and any other outstanding work. Factoring in time to rest and recharge was also essential. Time management was definitely an important skill to master but by the end of the PME, I was balancing full-time teaching and enjoying all that this program has to offer. It has been one of the most rewarding learning experiences I have done for myself.
