Sheri Henderson, BEd ’89, credits her foundational training in Queen’s Early Primary Education program for shaping her teaching career, which spans nearly four decades and four continents. Though she initially planned to teach primary school like her aunt and grandmother, she started at her old high school teaching German and French before transitioning to secondary English. When East Lambton SS was closed in 2000, Sheri embarked on an international journey, sampling schools, cultures and communities like Goldilocks, switching locations for seven years in a row, teaching in Switzerland, Abu Dhabi, Alexandria, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, and finally settling in Ras Al Khaimah for the next 12 years. There, she taught Emirati men exclusively, calling it the most professionally rewarding and culturally enriching experience of her life. Over the years, Sheri has connected with individuals from over 100 cultures, cherishing the relationships formed with students, many of whom remain lifelong friends.
Named to the Faculty of Education's Top 50 Influential Alumni in 50 Years, Sheri returned to Canada after an absence of almost 20 years. She has taught Writing to international students at King’s University College and now is an eLearning facilitator and teacher of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit history and English/ESL courses in the Thames Valley District School Board.
