Our own Alana Butler is one of the 2022 grant recipients for the Principal’s Impact Courses (PIC). The programs will use funding creatively to support the development of educational experiences that push the boundaries of teaching and learning. The PIC initiative is part of a commitment to transforming curricula by enhancing pre-existing courses or developing new ones.
Dr. Butler proposed modifications to FOCI 290: Teaching At-Risk Children. FOCI 290 will develop effective trauma informed, culturally relevant pedagogical strategies to support the success of children who are ‘at-risk.’ Learners will study the impact of socio-economic status, social identities, Indigeneity, family dynamics, structural factors, and biological influences. The course will build toward a community project designed to benefit elementary-school aged children attending schools in lower socio-economic areas in North Kingston.
In 2022, the Principal's Impact Courses selected 10 grant recipients.
Congratulations to Dr. Butler!
