The Practicum Office is the main link between schools in Ontario and the Faculty of Education for the practical component of the Bachelor of/Diploma in Education program.
The Practicum Office Team obtains and monitors practicum placements (PRAC) for both the Undergraduate Concurrent and Final Year Concurrent/BEd/DEd programs.
Candidates in any of the education programs can find out about the PRAC courses and requirements in onQ in their enrolled PRAC course. Candidates must log on with their NetID and password.
If you believe you are experiencing an EDI-related issue while on practicum:
Step 1: If possible, and you are comfortable, bring the issue to your associate teacher OR your faculty liaison (PROF 410/411 instructor). If step 1 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 2: Contact Andrea Martin (andrea.martin@queensu.ca), PROF 410 Coordinator or Stefan Merchant (sdm11@queensu.ca), PROF 411 Coordinator. If step 2 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 3: Contact the Executive Program Director of Teacher Education (edudirector@queensu.ca). If step 3 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 4: Contact edudeans@queensu.ca to schedule a meeting with Associate Dean of Teacher Education, Dr Peter Chin. If step 4 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 5: Reach out to the Queen's Human Rights Advisory Services at hrrights@queensu.ca to book an appointment with an advisor.
Other challenges with your school placement or associate teacher are resolved through the following review process, with documentation provided:
Step 1: The active involvement of the faculty liaison (PROF 410/411 instructor) to intervene directly with the associate teacher (AT) to address the concern. Depending on the circumstance, the intervention and prospective resolution may necessitate in-person, face-to-face meetings involving the associate teacher, teacher candidate, and the faculty liaison. When an intervention has occurred and resulted in a meeting, the faculty liaison will provide a brief summary to the teacher candidate and the Practicum Office via email, immediately following the intervention meeting, advising of the basic facts and resolution. If step 1 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 2: Involve the PROF Coordinator (Prof 410: Andrea Martin (adnreamartin@queensu.ca); PROF 411: Stefan Merchant (sdm11@queensu.ca) in the direct involvement to intervene with the associate teacher to address the concern. Documentation of intervention strategies is required. If step 2 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 3: Contact the Executive Program Director of Teacher Education (edudirector@queensu.ca) to book an appointment to discuss the concern, advising of the dates when the candidate engaged in steps 1 and 2. If step 3 does not resolve the concern, then:
Step 4: Contact edudeans@queensu.ca to schedule a meeting with Associate Dean of Teacher Education, Dr Peter Chin.
