Overview:
The Marketing and Communications Team is creating a name pronunciation guide that will be included on People Directory pages of the website. Names are an important part of people's identity and we want to provide resources to help everyone know how to pronounce the names within our community.
How to participate?
We need you to help us with this by recording a quick clip of how you pronounce your name, which can be done on your phone, and then email that pronunciation to Education Communications. For any help recording, please email educcomm@queensu.ca.
You should also include a phonetic proncunciation. Check out this article (PDF 444 KB) for tips on creating a phonetic spelling of your name.
Some guidelines to help you make your recording:
- You can use any device you have at your disposal (phone, computer, recording device).
- Make sure the device is close to your mouth while you are recording.
- Try to limit the amount of background noise. Closets work well at dampening other sounds
- Make sure your full name is included in the recording. Play it back to check the quality and include pauses to ensure nothing gets cut off.
- Speak slowly and clearly.
