I have been an FSL and immersion teaching, program lead and author for over 30 years. I co-authored Sans Frontiers (2000) and Points De Connexion (2015) both grade 9 texts through Pearson Education Canada. I have also authored courses for both Brock and Queen's University. Having just retired from my high school position last June, I have continued to teach and mentor at both Brock and Queen's University. I have recently received my certification as an International Neurolanguage Coach through ECL.
What is your favourite AQ/ABQ course to teach? I teach French as a Second Language (FSL) in Ontario and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the participants and reading their professional interactions. It is also a privilege to get to mentor FSL teachers as they begin their journey into this field.
What is one strategy from this course that teachers can use tomorrow in their classroom? One strategy that has really been universally appreciated is gleaning a better understanding of the CEFR (Common European Framework) and the action approach. Teachers get an opportunity to see examples and then share their ideas and concerns. This is so important as many French teachers often are not given general PD opportunities to study, analyze, create and share specifically in FSL.
Why should teachers consider taking this AQ? There are many reasons why teachers should consider this course. Primarily, it provides community when often there are few available. It allows for a deeper understanding of curriculum and current best practices. It also allows for creative designing in lesson /cycle planning with almost instant formative feedback from colleagues and the instructor. Overall, the course can invigorate your passion for teaching.
