CONT636: Honour Specialist Social Sciences
This course is designed to enhance your professional practices. The focus is on critical thinking, global citizenship, universal design for learning (UDL), assessment and evaluation, digital tools and citizenship, and equity and inclusion. You will explore the use of critical thinking strategies to encourage students to analyze and question social issues while fostering an understanding of global citizenship.

In this course you’ll have the opportunity to
- analyze social sciences theories and current issues using a critical and creative thinking lens to develop informed practices
- apply principles of backward design to develop meaningful and relevant unit plans that align with the Ontario curriculum
- evaluate assessment and evaluation strategies in social sciences that support fair, transparent, and culturally responsive measuring of student achievement
- integrate digital literacy and technology tools to enhance student engagement, critical thinking, and digital citizenship
- cultivate an inclusive classroom environment that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion, highlighting authentic voices and lived experiences and reflecting the positionality of students from all backgrounds
- demonstrate reflective and ethical leadership in social sciences education aligned with Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) standards of practice
