CONT574: Senior Mathematics
The subject of Senior Mathematics sits at the intersection of subject knowledge, human relationships, and the real lives of students in Ontario schools. This course is grounded in the idea that effective mathematics teaching grows from reflective practice, strong professional relationships, and a clear commitment to equity and inclusion. Classrooms are not neutral spaces. They carry histories, assumptions, and power dynamics that shape how learners experience mathematics and how they see themselves within it. Throughout this learning journey, you will have space to examine your own experiences with mathematics, consider how curriculum and policy influence daily practice, and think carefully about how instructional choices affect student confidence, engagement, and sense of belonging. Working in a collaborative professional community, you will connect theory to classroom realities while drawing on Ontario curriculum, professional standards, and current educational research. The goal is to support you in developing a thoughtful, responsive approach to teaching that honours diverse learners, strengthens your professional identity, and helps you create mathematics classrooms where all students can participate, learn, and thrive.
