Teacher Leadership Part 2 empowers educators to expand their sphere of influence and facilitate systemic change beyond the classroom. Through critical policy analysis and the design of authentic leadership artifacts, you will explore adult learning theories, legislative frameworks, and anti-oppressive practices. You will learn how to deconstruct power and privilege, mentor colleagues, mobilize data for equity, and foster reciprocal partnerships with families, Elders, and community stakeholders. By developing a comprehensive systemic change action plan, you will refine your leadership philosophy to dismantle barriers and sustain an inclusive school culture where innovation and well-being thrive.

Learning Outcomes

What You Will Learn and Do

In this course, you’ll have the opportunity to

  • critically analyze and develop strategies to address systemic bias and barriers
  • integrate ethical professional identity, knowledge, leadership, advocacy, and collective practices to inform program planning
  • leverage strategies that inspire and support communication and collaboration among educators, learners, families, and stakeholders to make connections with community resources
  • utilize data to inform school improvement planning and the impact on pathway programming and transitions
  • reinforce processes and practices to foster accessible opportunities, communication and collaboration with learners, families, caregivers, guardians, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, agencies, and the school community to support learning
  • address the sustainability of the change, integrating Indigenous perspectives, and develop awareness of legal obligations
  • critically analyze frameworks that support leaders (e.g. Ontario Leadership Framework, 2013)
  • integrate research that reflects society’s diverse changing nature and influence on learning and well-being
  • strengthen development of leadership styles based on philosophies, experiences, theories, and available pathways in order to impact school culture and climate
