My practicum experience has been one of profound transformation and growth. I feel incredibly blessed to have been supported by such inspiring associate teachers and a welcoming school community throughout my fifth year.
Exactly one year ago, as I completed my undergraduate degree, I found myself uncertain about what the future held. I questioned what my next steps would look like and whether teaching was truly the path I was meant to pursue. Although I had classroom experience during my early years of my undergraduate degree through Concurrent Education, I had become disconnected from the feeling and purpose of being in a classroom. Without a practicum placement in my fourth year, that sense of connection faded even further, and I began to lose sight of what teaching meant to me.
Encouraged by my family, I decided to follow through and complete my Bachelor of Education degree, despite feeling unsure about what I was called to do. However, the moment I walked into my first fifth-year placement on September 29, 2025, everything changed. I immediately knew I was exactly where I was meant to be. I was welcomed by incredible administrators who made me feel valued within the school community, an associate teacher who encouraged me to take risks and grow in confidence, and students whose curiosity and creativity reignited my own passion for learning.
One of the most transformative parts of my fifth-year experience was returning to the same school for each of my placements. This continuity allowed me to build meaningful relationships with staff and students, grow in confidence, and begin to truly understand the kind of educator I hope to become. My teaching style started to come into focus as one rooted in compassion, encouragement, creativity, and genuine connection with students. Through the relationships I built, I was able to uphold my philosophy that teaching is not simply about delivering curriculum, but about creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel seen, capable, and inspired to learn.
Looking back, my practicum journey reminded me why I chose this profession in the first place. It taught me the importance of perseverance, openness to growth, and trusting the process, even during moments of uncertainty. Most importantly, it showed me that taking risks can lead to the most meaningful and transformative experiences.
