Advice for New Students:
Dig in! Don't just jump through hoops. There is so much potential to learn, engage with others, share and grow. All of the material has depth and application in the workplace and choose courses that are important to you and challenge you. Bring your own materials too; educational books that inspire you can inspire others as well.
Why did you choose this program?
The wide variety of course selections and specific streams made it easy to choose the Master of Education at Queen's.
What was one moment of the program so far that stands out to you?
Knowing virtually nothing about literacy and then taking two literacy courses meant I learned an incredible amount in two semesters and felt much more comfortable speaking to the subject in my workplace. By first learning literacy history and theory development and then practical application I was much more prepared as an administrator to walk with my staff in their daily teaching struggles regarding assessment and intervention.
How do you fit this program into your life? How do you structure your days to fit it in?
There are late nights and time spent on weekends, but the fall and winter semesters are well-paced for up to 2 courses and are completely manageable, even for a husband and father of three.
