Course Description
This course will introduce participants to approaches, tools, and frameworks for using generative AI in the classroom. This course will begin with the foundations of AI, explore principles of ethical use of AI tools, explore issues of academic integrity, and conclude with strategies for AI-augmented teaching. This course will introduce ideas for captivating activities, dynamic assignments, and agile lesson planning to help you take your teaching and educational endeavours to new heights.
Learning Outcomes
The primary learning outcomes for GDE/PME 870 are to:
- Identify key concepts of artificial intelligence
- Use key AI knowledge to inform decisions in learning environments
- Identify possibilities for AI-augmented teaching
- Identify potential pitfalls of AI-augmented teaching
- Use AI thoughtfully in teaching and educational practice
- Appraise newly encountered AI technologies for their ethical considerations and implications
- Identify the drawbacks and deleterious effects of AI tools, including their biases
- Select and use appropriate AI tools to enhance their teaching and learning
- Consider theoretical foundations of learning and how these can be augmented or sundered by AI deployment
- Use theory to inform the selection of appropriate AI use
