Donna’s years at Queen’s University completing her B.A. / B.P.H.E. Program between 1971 and 1975 were very happy and fulfilling years for her. Immediately following completion of her classes in April of 1975, Donna married her long-time friend from high school, John Greenhorn, on May 10th at Portland United Church. When she returned to Queen’s later that month for the graduation ceremony, classmates welcomed her in unison by saying “Hello, Mrs. Greenhorn.”

Donna and John moved to an apartment in Kingston, where Donna attended McArthur College of Education in 1976 and received a B.Ed. degree. She then embarked on a M.Sc. Program in Biomechanics through the School of Physical and Health Education. During this time, she received a graduate scholarship to conduct research for Dr. Donald Macintosh into interschool sports programs in Ontario secondary schools, as well as federal government involvement in sports in Canada. When Dr. Joan Stevenson became the Director of the School of Physical and Health Education, Donna also worked as a Research Associate and Writer on topics involving physical selection standards in the Canadian Armed Forces.

After John completed his B.Sc. and B.Ed. at Queen’s University, John and Donna moved to Prescott where John taught Math and Science and Donna taught Phys. Ed. and Math at South Grenville District High School. Both John and Donna enjoyed coaching interschool sports teams. They purchased a country home in a hamlet called Crystal Rock which is situated near the junction of Highway 401 and Highway 416, and they remain in that home to this day.

In 1990, their daughter, Janet, was born and Donna left teaching to raise her at home until Janet started attending school. During those years at home, Donna continued to write research papers for Dr. Macintosh and Dr. Stevenson. When Janet started kindergarten, Donna returned to teaching, and switched to the elementary panel and taught at South Edwardsburg Public School until her retirement.

After years of exploring the woods behind our home, Janet decided that she wanted to enrol in a B. Sc. Program in Biology at Queen’s University, which was followed by a M.SC. Program at Trent University in Environmental and Life Sciences. Janet was then hired by the Provincial Research and Management Branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources that is based at Trent University. She is enjoying her career as a Wildlife Research Biologist and Research Analyst for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

In their retirements, both Donna and John have enjoyed attending sporting events involving their 16 grandnieces and grandnephews, and spending time with their large extended family. They have also served in many volunteer positions at Wall Street United Church in Brockville during their 40 years of attendance. Most notably, John served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for many years, and Donna founded and continues to lead an Indigenous Sub-Committee as part of the Outreach and Social Action Committee. They are thankful for the many blessings of their life together and are looking forward to their 50th Reunion at Queen’s.
