The award recognizes educators in Canada who have demonstrated innovation and excellence in promoting mathematics education at the elementary, secondary, college or university level.

Lynda’s work at all levels of public education and while at the Faculty of Education has contributed to helping early career teachers and parents get involved in mathematics education. For over 10 years Colgan coordinated Science Rendezvous Kingston bringing it to new heights (literally) with 40-foot dinosaurs and real-life astronauts being just some of the highlights.

In 2022, it was announced that Lynda would be taking over as Executive Director, Education and Development for Science Rendezvous National. This role furthers Colgan’s excellent outreach work and she hopes to establish more partnerships and sponsorships for the Science Rendezvous national network.

Outreach was a particular area of excellence identified in this award process. Explore the full awards announcement on the Fields Institute website. As part of winning the Margaret Sinclair Memorial Ward, Colgan will give the Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award Lecture at the September 2023 MathEd Forum.

Congratulations Lynda on this well-deserved honour!
