Students in the Artist in Community Education program explored the art of puppet making in a workshop delivered by Clelia Scala. Scala is a visual artist who works in a variety of mediums including mask, puppet design, collage, and illustration.

During the workshop students created short plays which involved making their own backdrops as well as moving puppets. Working with overhead projectors, Scala used mixed materials like lace and acetate to demonstrate how students could create effects like cross-fades and burning fires.

Clelia Scala has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Kingston Arts Council and is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at the DAN School.

Thank you Clelia for delivering such an inspiring workshop! And well done to our students for creating such delightful pieces.
