Thanks to support from the Barbara Crook Fund, the Faculty of Education welcomed Juno winning children’s entertainment duo Splash n’ Boots for a workshop with ACE students this April. Splash n’ Boots began in 2003 as a class project for undergraduate students in Con.Ed. and Artsci Drama/Music (now Queen’s alumni) Nick Adams and Taes Leavitt respectively. At the workshop Nick and Taes shared the challenges and successes working in the children’s entertainment industry and spoke about the role of education and the power and importance of perseverance.

Students were then treated to several interactive songs, which got everyone of their seats for the true Splash n’ Boots experience. Displaying their trademark generosity, Nick and Taes offered follow-up advice to students and provided the ACE students with resources, ideas, and tips for pursing a career in arts education.

Nick and Taes’ time at Queen’s helped prepare them for the successful careers they now enjoy.  Both were members of the Barefoot Players and that experience inspired ideas and helped them learn how to creatively engage with children to make learning fun.

A B.Ed. degree helped further equip the team with the administrative and organizational tools they would need to educate young children.

Following the non-traditional path prominent in the careers of many ACE grads, Splash N’ Boots continues to engage and educate children through their live performances and TV show, bringing the values of kindness and acceptance to kids though music and movement.
