Teacher Education and English Language Program

Professional Development for Korean Teachers

Do you want to become familiar with the Ontario education system and curriculum, while improving your English language skills? Do you want to prepare for teaching jobs in Ontario?

The Faculty of Education at Queen's University is offering you a unique opportunity to receive professional development in Canada for teachers who are certified to teach in South Korea. You will receive a transcript and a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program. Our program will count towards the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) accreditation process.

About Our Professional Program:

  • Designed for teachers who have completed their education program and are looking to extend their learning with other experienced Korean teachers
  • Enroll in five professional courses for teachers (Additional Qualification - AQ)
  • Join other Korean teachers who are gaining professional development like you
  • Experience continuing teacher education chosen by most of the Ontario teachers
  • Entrance requirement: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80
  • Certificate issued: Preparing to Teach in Ontario: Post Grad Certificate

Program Includes

English Language Training

The English language training offers intensive, integrated practice in all four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The goal is to help you achieve IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 103 level of proficiency.

School Placement

You will complete 20 days of a practicum placement in a local school. During this placement, you will observe classes and gain experience in teaching in a Canadian classroom. Please note that the school placement is likely to be in the Greater Toronto Area.

Employment and Career Preparation

You will have an opportunity to join workshops that will help you to prepare for job applications in Ontario. The workshops focus on resume writing, job searches, and preparing for job fairs.

Program Dates and Fees

  • The program is from September 30, 2019 to June 5, 2020.
  • Tuition fee is $14,720 CAD
  • Additional fees include student activity fee, University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP), and accommodations (homestay is available)

Important Deadlines

  • March 08, 2019:  Applications are accepted online. Program invoice will be issued if your application is successful.
  • July 02, 2019:  Deadline to apply and to submit supporting documents (transcripts and English language test scores).
  • July 15, 2019: Deadline to make a full payment.
