Photograph of Dr. Carolyn HildebrandtDr. Carolyn Hildebrandt is a Professor of Psychology at University of Northern Iowa (B.A. Music, UCLA; M.A. Educational Psychology, U.C. Davis; Ph.D. Human Development and Education, U.C. Berkeley; Postdoctoral Fellowship, Developmental Psychology, U.C. Berkeley). She teaches Developmental Psychology, Psychology of Music, and Psychology of Gender Differences. Her research interests include social and cognitive development in childhood and adolescence, creativity and music in early childhood, and constructivist approaches to early childhood education. She is coauthor of a book on early childhood education -- DeVries, R., Zan, B., Hildebrandt, C., Edmiaston, R., & Sales, C. (Eds.) (2002). Developing constructivist early childhood curriculum: Practical principles and activities. New York: Teachers College Press--and has recently completed a chapter on early childhood moral education--(Hildebrandt, C. & Zan, B. (2008, 2014). Constructivist approaches to moral education in early childhood. In L. Nucci & D. Narvaez (Eds.), Handbook of moral and character education. New York: Erlbaum. She is on sabbatical this fall and currently working on an article on fostering musical creativity in constructivist early childhood classrooms.
