Faculty of Education Operations During COVID-19

In response to Ontario Premier Doug Ford's announcement requiring a shut down of all but essential services in order to control the spread of COVID-19, the Faculty of Education is suspending all in-person hours at Duncan McArthur Hall. All student services continue to available online and through email.

COVID-19 Self-Assessment Procedures for Entering Duncan McArthur Hall

Based on the advice of public health officials, all students, faculty, staff, and visitors must complete the COVID-19 Self-Assessment form before entering Duncan McArthur Hall.

Completing the form is required prior to each work shift or each visit to the building to help safeguard the health and safety of the Queen’s community and help limit the exposure to and transmission of COVID-19. Not complying with this will result in an initial verbal warning, followed by removal of access to the building for additional non-compliance.

Use this self-assessment to review any symptoms you may have and whether you may need to be tested for COVID-19. Anyone feeling unwell should not come to campus and follow the steps in the self-assessment. This form is to be completed prior to each work shift or each visit to the building to help safeguard the health and safety of the Queen’s community and help limit the exposure to and transmission of COVID-19.

All information collected is treated confidentially.

Technology for Instructors

We are in the process of providing all instructors with a Pro Zoom license.  Our team will be creating the meetings and embedding them in your courses along with an instruction module for students on how and when to connect.  It is important to us that the students receive a consistent experience across all courses to ensure a simple, high quality delivery.  Courses will continue at their regularly scheduled times.  We will continue to leverage the flexibility of the OnQ platform to provide an excellent and familiar learning experience.  At this time we ask that software used for delivery outside of OnQ and Zoom be requested through edhelp@queensu.ca. We are also currently asking all instructors teaching in April to provide an online presence within their OnQ courses.  Holly Sheppard will be reaching out to members whose courses can have an improved student experience.  Please work with her to ensure our students get the best possible product going forward.

Technology for Staff and Faculty

We getting an architecture set up to support staff and faculty working remotely using Microsoft Teams.  Staff that have been moved offsite have already been set up but we understand due to the rushed nature of the situation that there is still training left to do.  We will work in the days and weeks to come to make resources available to everyone and we will be holding training webinars and Q&A’s to people to assist the transition to a work at home lifestyle.

Technology for Students

Our team encourages students to take advantage of the Microsoft suite of products provided to them, specifically Microsoft Teams.  This collaboration tool is free to students and includes video conferencing, screen sharing, filesharing, chat and collaboration services and much more.  Additional resources for students can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/its/getting-started/student.
