Concerning Intercultural – Toward more Competent Interactions

In this workshop, participants will examine their own cultural selves, be introduced to some of the dimensions of culture that define them (and others), as well as one theory of how we interact with cultural commonality and difference. They will apply what they have learned to some case studies, explaining the cultural elements and how those involved could interact in a more culturally competent way.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Describe their own culture, and identify behaviours, beliefs and values that are connected to it;
  • Identify various dimensions of culture and their preferences around these dimensions;
  • Recognize characteristics of one theory relating to intercultural interactions; and
  • Devise some strategies to modify behaviours in order to increase their effectiveness in intercultural interactions.
