Internationally Trained Teachers (ITT)

Queen's University is committed to equity and inclusion, and fosters initiatives that will result in a teaching force that reflects and values the ethnic diversity of Ontario students.

Candidates who meet the following three criteria qualify to apply for the Queen's Internationally Trained Teachers (ITT) program:

  • international teaching qualifications
  • international teaching experience
  • landed immigrants or Canadian citizens.
Qualified applicants interested in this program must first apply to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) for an assessment.  Information is located at www.oct.ca.  Click on language (English or French), and then scroll down the left hand side, and click on Internationally Trained Teachers.  A registration guide is available. After the OCT makes an assessment that the applicant requires teacher (re)training in a Bachelor of Education program at an Ontario Faculty of Education, only then will the applicant apply, through the OUAC/TEAS website, to Queen's Faculty of Education.  The candidate must also send all the required documents to the Registrar or make arrangements with the Ontario College of Teachers to send copies of their documents and the assessment made from the Ontario College of Teachers to the Education Registrar of the Faculty of Education.  Applicants must also complete and submit the International Teacher Experience Record form.

The Faculty has reserved spaces in both Primary-Junior and Intermediate-Senior program options in the Consecutive Education program for ITT students.  Preparation in this program leads to the Bachelor of Education degree.  For further ITT admission requirements, refer to the Admission Criteria.

Note that if, after assessing the file, the Ontario College of Teachers determines that the applicant requires an additional course or some courses in Education, or some more teaching experience, the applicant should not apply to the Queen's Faculty of Education through the OUAC/TEAS website.  The following universities support ITT applicants requiring partial training; applicants should contact these universities directly for more information.
