1. Application Information Sheet

Please print and complete the Applicant Information Sheet. Ensure your full name appears on each page, complete both pages and staple together. This sheet helps us determine quickly where a person's experience and interests lie pertaining to OEE.

2. Letter of Introduction

To ensure that your Letter of Introduction is evaluated favorably, it must conform to the following guidelines: ensure your full name appears at the top of the page, letter must be typed on a 8.5x11" inch page, one page both sides, 1.5"-2" spacing (no single spacing), margins must be at least 1" on all sides, font should be no smaller than 12 points, addressed to: OEE Application Committee. Your letter should be a written description emphasizing the reasons you are applying to the OEE program track. Include highlights of the way our program specifically fits with your career goals and what you can offer our OEE community.

3. Letters of Reference

Two Letters of Reference. The letters should be written by someone who knows you well enough to address your interest in becoming an outdoor and/or experiential educator.  Letters of Reference should be submitted in a sealed envelope accompanying the supplemental documentation, or by the referees directly to the Education Registrar's Office.  Note: Absolutely no photocopies or fax copies of the letters will be accepted. Any copies received will be discarded and will not be reviewed by the selection committee.

4. Résumé

One copy of your Résumé, stapled. (Typical résumé stating your education, work experience and certification.)

5. Alternative Résumé

One copy of an Alternative Résumé: (ensure full name appears at the top of each page) done on standard 8.5x11" paper, 1-2 pages in length, stapled together, telling us the things about yourself that a formal résumé seldom includes. You can be as colorful as you wish, but keep the thickness to a regular weight and there should be nothing trailing or raised on the surface of the page.  You can also make up the categories. This résumé does not have to be typed, so think "outside the box" of typical résumé limitations. For instance, you could have a category about favorite books, inspiring moments, passions, personal hobbies or quirks. The alternative résumé has been introduced to help us distinguish between applicants at an early stage in the selection process. Once you submit your Alternative Résumé it becomes part of your application and is therefore property of Queen's University and cannot be returned. Please note: CDs submitted as an Alternative Résumé will not be considered.

6. Personal Artifact

Submit an artifact with your name on it - something tangible, not perishable, of a manageable size and light enough to transport easily, that will broaden your image and self-portrait. This artifact need not be elaborate, but should provide unique insight into its creator and should demonstrate your interest in becoming a professional in the outdoor experiential education field. Artifacts should be self-explanatory or have obvious interpretation woven into them. Tangible articles receive more exposure than a CD or computer program. Please note if you are considering a CD for your artifact ensure that it is a jpeg. Also consider that this type of artifact will only be viewed once in a 5-10 minute timeframe, whereas, a tangible artifact is always available for extra viewings. If you decide to submit a game, please ensure that the game board is small, as we have limited display surfaces. Artifact explanation sheets can be included but the text should be kept to one page, however, if you plan to use the reverse side of the sheet, please indicate at the bottom, to turn the sheet over. If your artifact is small, enclose it in a zip-type plastic bag. If there are a few pieces to your artifact, each piece should also be labeled with the applicant's full name on it and the number of pieces. Do not include any artificially scented products in your package.

Please ensure that your artifact is accompanied by only OEE required documentation. If you wish to drop off your package, call or e-mail the Education Registrar's Office, Duncan McArthur Hall.

Please note that artifacts will only be returned if accompanied by:

  • sufficient packaging materials,

  • sufficient postage applied to a self-addressed envelope,

  • sufficient postage accompanying 2 self-addressed labels (To & From),

  • Courier Prepaid, Collect Return Slips or Xpresspost Envelope with information completed on return delivery forms.

Please Note: No cash, cheques or money-orders will be accepted in lieu of postage.
