Aboriginal Teacher Education Program Track (ATEP)

How to Apply

We invite you to visit the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program site, where you will find information about the history of this unique program track, photos, and links to Aboriginal resources.

Selection of candidates from the Concurrent Education program is based on Supplemental Documents, including: ATE Applicant Information Form, Statement of Aboriginal Experience, Résumé and Letters of Aboriginal Community Support.

ATEP Program Track Supplemental Documents

All Supplemental Documentation should be submitted directly to the Concurrent Education Assistant at the address below, with the exception of the ATE Application Information Form which is submitted electronically.

1. Applicant Information Form Please complete the online ATE Applicant Information Form. The information collected is kept confidential and is used to maintain data on Aboriginal admissions. Please use your Queen's student number in place of the OUAC number.  The information form is submitted electronically to the Education Registrar's Office.
2. Statement of Aboriginal Experience Please complete the Statement of Aboriginal Experience (pdf). Substitute your Queen's student number in place of the OUAC number.
3. Résumé

The Résumé should provide a clear and concise overview of both (a) your academic background, and (b) work experience.

4. Letters of Aboriginal Community Support                                   

Submit reference letters from two respected members of your Aboriginal community (e.g., Elders, Community Leaders, Work Supervisors, Social/School Counsellors, Educators, Director of local Friendship Centres) to support your application to the ATE program. The referees must be able to comment on:

  • Aboriginal community contributions which you have made, and
  • Your potential to serve in the field of Aboriginal education

Only original letters, containing original signatures, will be accepted. Note: Photocopies or fax copies of the letters will not be accepted and discarded.  Letters of Aboriginal Community Support must be submitted in a sealed envelope accompanying the Supplemental Documentation, or by the referees directly to the Education Registrar's Office.
