Concurrent Education (First Year)

Concurrent Education students may apply for a number of awards, including the two listed below, by completing the Queen's University General Bursary Application available online on the Student Awards web page. The deadline for this application is 31 October. The Mary L. Balanchuk Concurrent Education Award
Established in December 2005 by Mary L. Balanchuk, Queen’s Professor Emerita (Education), B.A. 1949, BPaed 1959 (Toronto), M.Ed ’61 (Toronto), a graduate of Fort William Collegiate Institute, member of University Council, Senate, and member of the Board of Trustees. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student entering the first year of the Concurrent Education program who was a resident of Northern Ontario on admission to Queen’s University. Preference is given to a graduate of the Lakehead District School Board. If there are no eligible entering students meeting the above requirements, then the award may be granted to a student in any year of the Concurrent Education program who was a resident of Northern Ontario on admission to Queen’s University.

The Robert M. Disher Entrance Award
Established in January 2001 in honour of Robert M. Disher, BSc. (Mining and Metallurgical Eng) 1921, by the John R.W. Disher Family Trust. Robert Disher is a life-long educator and was the Principal of Ridgeway Consolidated High School. This award is based on financial need, academic achievement, and extra-curricular activities to graduates of Ridgeway and Crystal Beach High School (Ridgeway, Ontario) or graduates of Saint John High School (Saint John, New Brunswick) entering into the Concurrent Education program at Queen’s University. The award is renewable for an additional three years provided the candidate remains in the Concurrent Education program, and maintains a B average, demonstrates financial need, and is involved in University life.

Upper Year Concurrent and Consecutive Education

Students may apply for a number of awards by completing the Queen's University General Bursary Application available online on the Student Awards webpage. The deadline for this application is 31 October. Funds will be distributed at the beginning of the Winter Term.
