Tips:
Full-year courses are followed by an AB (A=Fall, B=Winter). You must register for both the A component in the Fall term, and the B in the winter. If there is no AB then the course is only offered in one term, Fall or Winter. When searching for courses, don’t forget to look at the single term offerings in the Winter term!
For course descriptions and offering times, refer to SOLUS: “SEARCH FOR CLASSES” on the right side of the screen.
View the courses you have been pre-enrolled in by selecting “Course History” from the “other academic…” drop-down menu.
There is no class time associated with Practicum (PRAC 190AB for PJ, PRAC 191AB for IS) - it appears at the bottom of your "Weekly Schedule" in SOLUS.
PROF 180AB is an online course and includes in-person pre-practicum orientation, introductory, and wrap-up sessions. There is no regular weekly class meeting.
Curriculum (CURR) courses: Primary-Junior candidates have been pre-enrolled by the Education Registrar’s Office into the same section number (e.g. 003) for your CURR courses 355AB, 383AB, 387AB. This is structured in this way so that candidates remain with the same group of peers in order to facilitate class discussion and the feeling of a “home room.”
Primary-Junior Curriculum arts courses CURR 389, 391 and 393 are half-year courses with sections offered in each Fall and Winter term. DO NOT register in the same course in both terms; select either a Fall or Winter course.

Elective courses fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Candidates may only select the courses that are required for their program; extra elective course registrations are not allowed during Course Selection.
Please do not enroll in more elective courses than you are required to take under the program requirements. If you do, the ERO will drop you from courses without warning. As a result, you risk losing the courses and schedule you actually want. If you want to take an additional elective course, you can enroll in courses with space during the Open Enrollment Period in September and January.
Elective courses may be available to any program, where others are open to PJ, IS, or Program Tracks only. SOLUS will not allow you to register in an elective not available to you.
EDST and FOUN are 3.0 unit half-year courses; you will attend this class in the Fall OR Winter, twice per week. FOCI are 3.0 unit full-year courses (AB); you will attend this class in the Fall AND Winter, once per week.
Education Studies (EDST)
Educational Studies (EDST) courses are intended to develop professional knowledge and skill in specialized areas at the operational level.
Foundations (FOUN)
Foundations (FOUN) courses deal with broad issues and with the intellectual and theoretical underpinnings of the education enterprise. Traditionally, Foundations courses are drawn from disciplinary areas such as philosophy, psychology, sociology, anthropology and history.
Program Focus (FOCI) *(linked to your alternative practicum)
Program Focus (FOCI)* courses are related to the candidate's alternative practicum. The alternative Practicum offers a view of schools and education that is different from that achieved during the regular practicum. Program Focus courses offer an alternative format for candidates and faculty to explore areas of mutual interest. The focus experience is grounded in practice and is closely tied to experience in schools and other settings that may be nontraditional.
