PROF 190 On-campus Weekly Course Schedule
Here is your course schedule. Use your PROF 190 course pack to locate weekly readings, some on paper, some online.Class meeting times and assignments culminating in the Exit Conference are standard for all sections.
Teacher Candidates who are unable to attend class are expected to complete an alternate learning activity based on the reading for that session.
Fall 2013
- Friday September 6, 1.5 hours: Introducing PROF 190: course outline, assignments, who we are and where we are going, schedule, course pack, website; Professional Learning Communities. - Friday September 13, 1.5 hrs. Observing and Reflecting in Classrooms. Readings: Borich, Jablon (course pack); Learning for All, Ch 4, Planning assessment and instruction (online resource pages 31-50).
- Friday September 20, 1.5 hrs. Classroom management. Readings: Wolk from Educational Leadership, Sept. 2003, pages 14-18 (online resource); Deir online "Finding Ms McArthur". Summer Reading assignment is due.
- Friday September 27, 1.5 hrs. Learning Environments. LNS Quality Teaching: It's Intentional, Segment 7 Ongoing Professional Learning (online video resource); Susan Schwartz, Creating the dynamic classroom 2nd edition, Ch 3 Inclusive Classroom Atmosphere (course pack).
- Friday October 4, 1.5 hours. Preparing for our Schools. (Course pack).
- Monday October 7 –Oct 25— Practicum: 3 weeks
- In-School Weekly Meetings begin: see questions prepared for each week's meeting; a candidate from each school meeting group will email meeting reports to their Faculty Liaisons.

- Friday November 15, Whole-group Presentation. No individual class meetings. Location: B101. 2pm. Topics: Assignments for PROF 190: Professional Learning Plan, Statement of Beliefs, Action Research. Information will be provided about these assignments. See course pack/handouts. Note: Statement of Beliefs Draft 1 is due electronically to instructors by Wed November 20; Professional Learning Plan is due electronically to instructor by Wed Nov 20.
- Friday November 22, 1.5 hours. Instruction. Readings: ETFO, The heart and art of teaching and learning, Ch 6 Meeting diverse needs (online resource, pages 95-110); LNS Quality Teaching, It's Intentional , Segment 10 Robert Marzano (online video resource).
- Friday November 29. No PROF 190 classes. Travel day.

- Friday January 10, 1.5 hours. Whole-Group presentation, Education Career Services Interview Workshop with invited professionals from field interview teams. B101
- Friday January 17, 1.5 hours. Whole-group presentation. Resume, Reflective Practice. Location: B101. Time: 1:30pm. No individual class meetings. Readings: York-Barr, Individual reflection; MacLatchy reflection; LNS Quality teaching: it's intentional, Segment 9 Reflection. Reflective practice statements are due to instructors by Monday Jan 20. - Friday, January 24. Teachers Overseas Recruiting Fair, presented by Education Career Services. No class meetings for PROF 190.

- February 10– March 7: Practicum: 4 weeks; in-school weekly meetings continue, with school groups using questions provided and candidates reporting to faculty liaisons
- March 10 to March 14: March Break
- March 17 to April 4, Alternative Practicum
- Friday April 11, 1.5 hours. Sharing Learning and Preparing for Exit Conferences, Discussion and feedback re Action Research; Debrief final practicum, link with program, focus on Exit Conference details.
- Friday April 18: Good Friday, No classes are scheduled.
- Friday April 25, Whole-Group Presentation, Education Career Services, Supply Teaching. B101
- Wednesday April 30— Exit Conferences. Exit Conferences are a program requirement: come and celebrate your learning and that of your peers on Wednesday April 30.
