Salary Categories

Teachers in Ontario are placed in a salary category either by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) or the Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario (QECO). First year teachers are typically placed in the A3 category - A4 is the highest category to attain. Taking the Honour Specialist course is the most common route to A4. Entry into the Honour Specialist course at Queen’s Continuing Teacher Education requires two years of teaching experience, a B- average in your undergraduate degree, and 9 full courses in one teaching subject or 14 courses across two teaching subjects (8+6 or 7+7).

Both the OSSTF and QECO will be on campus during your BEd year to discuss salary categories further. For more detailed information about salary categories in Ontario, please see
