Where possible, Intermediate-Senior teacher candidates will be assigned in their first teaching subject to one associate teacher (or department) for both sessions of Practicum Block One. Primary-Junior candidates are assigned in care of the school principal or school liaison and will be assigned to one associate teacher for both sessions of Practicum Block One.
After the first 3-week session candidates return to the Faculty of Education for 5 weeks of coursework incorporating reflection, the opportunity to make connections between their courses and practicum learning, and preparing for the second part of the fall practicum.
In the winter term candidates will normally return to the same school for a 4-week practicum in their other subject (Intermediate-Senior) or another division (Primary-Junior). Only those candidates enrolled in the Outdoor and Experiential Education focus program will need at least one class in their other subject (Intermediate-Senior) or time in another division (Primary-Junior) during the fall term. Outdoor Education candidates will not be returning in the winter term as they will be completing the second block in an Ontario Outdoor Education setting.
The Practicum Office requires candidates enrolled in the BEd/DipEd program to submit the following forms at various deadlines throughout the year.
Deadlines and Checklist sheet (in package on first day)
An interim report and summative assessment must be completed for each part of the first practicum block and for the second practicum block. The Practicum Office requires a *copy of the summative assessment only. The Faculty Liaison requires a copy of each assessment (interim report and summative).
*Candidates must keep the original of all assessments. The original will be needed to make further copies for application purposes. It is very important to keep the original copies in a safe place as the Practicum Office will not make copies from the files. Make sure both signatures are on all assessments.
Each District School Board requires an Education Placement Agreement form for each candidates working in their schools. *Candidates will be asked to sign a cumulative list that will be kept on file at Queen's Health and Safety. Because the Ministry of Education covers the cost of worker's compensation and private insurance coverage, the Ministry may use the information on the Education Placement Agreement form to verify claims.
*The Education Placement Agreement form will be given to you to complete in your PROF 190/191 class in September.
Deadline: January 11, 2013. This form will indicate with whom the candidate worked in the fall term and with whom the candidate will be working upon return to the Associate School in February.
