Drs. Theodore Christou and Christopher DeLuca Appointed Co-editors of JCACS
Drs. Theodore Christou and Christopher DeLuca, who are both current professors as well as alumni of the Faculty of Education, will assume the editorship of the Journal of the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies (JCACS) effective January 1, 2013.
Founded in 2003, JCACS is an open-access journal of the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) that is published semi-annually.
The Faculty's Associate Dean Graduate Studies and Research Dr. Rebecca Luce-Kapler was a founding co-editor of the journal with her long-term research partner Dr. Dennis Sumara, the current Dean of the University of Calgary.
Dr. Rena Upitis, Former Dean of the Queen’s Faculty of Education, also served previously as co-editor of the journal.
Drs. Christou and DeLuca have a significant amount of editorial experience, in both journal development and in reviewing for top tier publications. Their vision for the journal draws on their expertise in curriculum theory, history, philosophy and contemporary practices.
Dr. DeLuca explained that JCACS is “for both Canadian and international scholars engaging in theoretical and practical conversations about curriculum, teaching, and learning." As co-editors, Drs. Christou and DeLuca intend to " represent diverse authors and international perspectives in the field of curriculum studies."
According to Dr. Christou, it is important that discussions about contemporary curriculum be historically situated and contextualized. He stated that “the journal will make explicit connections to previous literature in curriculum studies and their philosophical contexts.”
The Faculty of Education is proud to have Drs. Christou and DeLuca and JCACS return to Queen's University. “We are delighted to have two graduates of our PhD program back at the Faculty as professors, and we are impressed that they are bringing JCACS with them, “ said Associate Dean Luce-Kapler. “I’m confident that their appointment will ensure that JCACS remains a leading journal and a key part of the CSSE’s activities.”
