Queen's News has published a story on Professor Emeritus Bert Horwood, the namesake of the Canadian Student Outdoor Education Conference (Horwood Conference), which takes place at the Queen's School of Kinesiology and Health Studies (SKHS) Building on January 25 & 26.
See the Queen's story: Outdoor education conference named for professor emeritus Professor Horwood was a founding member of the Faculty of Education in 1968, when outdoor experiential education was a relatively new approach to teaching.
“Right from the beginning, I was a teacher who felt that students had to make meaning out of their own experiences, and not out of second-hand experiences,” he says in the Queen's article.
“My contribution was in breaking ground in a field where there was very little disciplined inquiry before that.”
Professor Horwood also says he's looking forward to attending the Conference and that it’s an honour to have his contributions celebrated.
