The Associate School Awards for Support of Teacher Candidates are given annually to one elementary and one secondary school participating in the Bachelor of Education Program.  The principal and/or liaison at these schools all work hard to provide teacher candidates with meaningful and rewarding placements.

This year the Awards were presented to:

  • Lyons Oval Public School in Orillia
  • Sydenham High School in Sydenham

The Associate Teacher Awards are given for outstanding contributions to the Faculty of Education and its Teacher Candidates. The Faculty gives 5  Awards annually to recognize Associate Teachers whose programs and mentoring are exemplary, and whose commitment has resulted in excellent practicum placements for our candidates.

This year the Awards were given to:

  • Rami Al-Khatib, Geography, Weston Collegiate, Toronto
  • Barbara Brough, English/History, Trinity College School, Port Hope
  • Andrea Clarke, English and Liaison, Sydenham High School, Sydenham
  • Terri Dupuis, Grade 5/6, Westdale Park Public School, Napanee
  • Martha Gray, English, Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI), Kingston

The practicum is successful because of the dedication and commitment of over 1500 teachers at approximately 300 Associate Schools, and the Faculty of Education is grateful for this service.  Teacher candidates benefit from the assistance with lesson planning, from the reflective analysis of teaching, and from guidance on classroom management.  Associate Teachers are exemplary role models and they set standards of excellence for teacher candidates.

The Faculty would like to congratulate and thank all of this year's award winners and nominees!
