Lynda Colgan’s children’s non-fiction book, Mathemagic has been selected by the
American-based Junior Library Guild as one of the “best of the best” publications for 2011.
Of the 125,000 children’s books published annually, 3000 are submitted for adjudication by editors from the Junior Library Guild (who provide schools and public libraries with recommendations about best new- release books for children and young adults). Of those, 384 are selected for distinction. Of those, 95% go on to win further awards and recognition.
The Junior Library Guild Selection designation is unique in that it is typically awarded so early, often in advance of publication. With its distinction as one of the first awards given, it is often viewed as a bellwether of future success.
