Submit your Proposal
http://orgs.educ.queensu.ca/rbjse/proposal.html

We invite submissions from current graduate students that show relevance to the conference audience, contribute to education in its broadest sense, and demonstrate a high level of academic quality. Submissions should be in the form of a maximum 300-word abstract that adheres to professional grammatical structure and written presentation. Abstracts should be fully edited and ready to be included in the conference program.

Participants are able to participate in a presentation or a roundtable discussion of their research.

For further inquiries regarding the symposium, please contact the program chair, Lindsay Heggie, at rbjse@queensu.ca

Deadline for proposal submission: February 13, 2013 at midnight

Submissions will be peer-reviewed by members of the symposium committee, and notification of acceptance will be sent to applicants via email before March 1, 2013, at which time registration for the symposium will be open.

Students can opt to participate in RBJSE in one of two ways: a presentation or a roundtable discussion of their research.

Presentations

The presentation format is chosen when the goal is to present a finished paper, academic findings or a comprehensive literature review. One session will feature two presenters, each allotted approximately 17 minutes to give an overview of his or her topic or research. After the presentations there will be 10 minutes for questions from the audience. The abstract of the presentation should address the following, as applicable:

(a) purpose;

(b) perspective(s) or theoretical framework;

(c) methods and data source(s);

(d) results, conclusions and/or interpretations; and

(e) educational importance of the study.

Roundtables

A roundtable session is an opportunity to receive feedback on a work in progress (e.g., a research proposal). Each roundtable session will be 45 minutes in length. Presenters will have 20 minutes to give an overview of their research, and the remaining 25 minutes for discussion. Feedback will first be provided by a discussant who has read the paper in advance, with the remainder of the time for questions and comment. If you opt for the roundtable format, we would welcome your suggestion for a suitable discussant (a faculty member or doctoral student at the Queen’s Faculty of Education); please include it with your proposal. The abstract of the roundtable should address the following, as applicable:

(a) purpose;

(b) perspective(s) or theoretical framework;

(c) proposed methods; and

(d) educational importance of the study.
