Anne Smith to Receive Royal Canadian Geographical Society Geographic Literacy Award

Geography curriculum instructor Anne Smith has won the 2013 Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS) Geographic Literacy Award, which will be presented to her by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada and patron of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS), at the College of Fellows Annual Dinner on November 13.

Canadian Geographic Education, the educational network of the RCGS, annually recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to geographic literacy in Canada with the Geographic Literacy Award.  Anne’s award letter states:

"Your passion for geography knows no bounds and has clearly had a positive impact on many students and teachers throughout your career."

This positive impact on students and teachers clearly matters to Anne as well. When asked about receiving the award, she stated: “I know my nomination was initiated by my students and colleagues, and that means an awful lot to me.”

Anne will travel to Ottawa to attend the RCGS Awards Ceremony, prior to the RCGS College of Fellows Annual Dinner, at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, in Gatineau, Quebec.

Congratulations Anne!
