  • Philosophy of education
  • History of educational ideas, pragmatism and educational theory (John Dewey)
  • Pragmatism and continental philosophy in conversation, and modes of inquiry in ethics, aesthetics, science, and political theory

Recent Publications

Dr. Johnston has recently written two books, Inquiry and Education: John Dewey and the Quest for Democracy and Deweyan Inquiry: From Educational Theory to Practice. He has also recently published journal articles in Educational Studies, Educational Theory, and the Journal of Aesthetic Education.
