Faculty Hosts Upcycling  Project Students & Teachers on Oct 30

MSTE_logo.jpgInstructor Holly Ogden and teacher candidates in her Primary-Junior Mathematics, Science and Technology and Integrated Arts Cluster classes have organized a school outreach project with Holy Name Catholic School.

The project will provide an opportunity for teacher candidates to facilitate and learn collaboratively with students and teachers in Grades 5, 6, and 7 as they undertake an inquiry-based, integrated upcycling project. The project is being supported by the Faculty's Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education Group (MSTE).

Teacher candidates have visited Holy Name to meet the students and create project teams, and they have set up online learning groups using Edmodo where they communicate with the elementary school students on a weekly basis.  They have also collaboratively designed a summative assessment tool and created individualized learning plans for the small groups that they are working with.

On Tuesday, 30 October 2012, students and teachers from Holy Name will be coming to McArthur Hall to attend a library session on research and to work on their projects with teacher candidates during their scheduled class time.

On November 12, the teachers involved in the project will join teacher candidates in class at McArthur to guide the teacher candidates through moderated assessment and evaluation.  The culminating activity of the project will be a Student Showcase at Holy Name Catholic School on 27 November, which will provide the candidates with the opportunity to see the results of their facilitation and guidance throughout this inquiry project.

Welcome to students and teachers from Holy Name Catholic School and best wishes for your  upcycling project!
