Abstract: This case study examined the peer assessment process from the perspective of university students receiving peer feedback in one occupational therapy (OT) course at a major Canadian research university. The research aimed to explore the role of peer assessment on student learning. The data for this inquiry consisted of transcripts from six semi-structured interviews and a focus group as well as written artifacts from the course. The data analysis revealed three core themes related to both the peer assessment process and peer feedback. Motivation for learning and self-awareness were identified as two key themes relating to the impact on student learning. The third theme identified was factors that impacted the learning experience which had to do with how students felt about having engaged in the peer assessment process. A unique finding centered on the "time factor" required to take on the roles, inherent in the peer assessment activities. Students offered insights into the relationship between stress and motivation for learning when taking on peer assessment responsibilities.

Abstract: Focused on exploring, documenting, and explaining the educational experiences of undergraduate anatomy students who are engaged in an inquiry-learning project, my research takes a qualitative approach to investigating the traditionally scientific and quantitatively-based world of anatomical sciences. This session focuses on my initial reflections of engaging in research where it can sometimes feel as though each foot is placed in two different worlds. Participants will engage in a discussion exploring how research challenges us to operate from and integrate various perspectives in forming new and exciting pathways.
