Natalia Asenjo arrived during the boxing day with her family to come to a research stay for 6 months. They all change the dry summer of Santiago de Chile for the cold winter of Kingston. Even though the temperatures were very low in the beginning, work with Professor Dr. Tom Russell was a great opportunity for her professional and academic development, so she could not miss it.

Her research interest is about reflective practice and its impact on a change in the beliefs and practices of English teachers in Chile. These topics are tangential to Professor Russell’s research. For that reason, working with him has been invaluable. When asked about her experience working with Dr. Tom Russell, Natalia said, “…Tom is a great professor. He is very generous with his knowledge. To have his guidance, experience, and knowledge of reflective practice will allow me to better understand the nature of its teaching and its implementation in a more effective manner. I am learning about his conception of the reflective practice in action. This has allowed me to gain a deeper interpretation of how reflective practice is promoted in his context, which has had positive results”. Natalia hopes that her research will contribute to the study of reflective practice and language teaching, as well as to professional teacher development of English teachers here in Chile.
