Local Public Education Partnerships

On the basis of the Mathematics Courses for Parents, many participants requested assistance from the Coordinator, Dr. Lynda Colgan, in preparing requests for funding from the Ministry of Education for school-based parent education programs.

Between January and March 2011, Dr. Colgan has been the keynote speaker at five parent conferences and has replicated the Mathematics for Parents course in two families of schools. Attendance at the workshops and courses has been impressive: from 50 to 250 families participating. The workshops have also been attended by local school board trustees, vice-principals, principals, teachers and school council members.

Dr. Colgan is collaborating with 5 local schools to secure funding by the Ministry of Education for similar programs during the 2011-2012 school year.
