The Community Outreach Centre at the Faculty of Education needs an ambassador and we want you to design it!
The Community Outreach Centre at the Faculty of Education works with local children in formal and informal settings to inspire, support and celebrate children's interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (S.T.E.M.) education.
A primary goal of the centre is to convince children that S.T.E.M. subjects are fun, engaging and accessible to everyone. We are particularly concerned about the fact that 50% of girls in grade three report that they do not like S.T.E.M subjects and they are not good at them (in spite of achievement levels to the contrary!)
In light of this statistic, the Community Outreach Centre is sponsoring a design contest to create a positive female role model and S.T.E.M ambassador to display at workshops, seminars, public education events, and courses. We have the blank plywood figure and we invite designs which will give this ambassador a welcoming and encouraging appearance. We hope her presence at the entrance to our various community offerings will help set young participants at ease.
