They believe that investment in prevention, early identification and intervention strategies, has more effect, greater impact, and much less cost than later remedial interventions. FASAT also provides assistance and support for families dedicated to meeting the needs of children already possessing FAS. As well, they are involved in activities related to the prevention of FAS, including participating in awareness campaigns, providing training for addiction treatment staff, teachers, counsellors, and youth in ways to influence the attitudes and lifestyles of young children. Support and information has been provided to groups of parents in Simcoe, Six Nations, Mount Forest, and others. In partnership with Ontario Student Associations, a poster campaign to raise public awareness is underway. Presentations are being made to many Ontario high school and university student groups regarding the consumption of alcohol during pregnancy. A group of student volunteers, trained by FASAT, are currently involved in these presentations.
