The ATEP resource library contains approximately 4,000 books, videos, audio tapes, CDs, and kits, with a focus on material of use to Aboriginal educators.
The main library is housed at the ATEP offices in the Faculty of Education, Queen's University. The two community-based libraries are located on-site at Kenjgewin Teg in M'Chigeeng (West Bay), and 7 Generations (Fort Frances).
Hours of operation for the Queen's site are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday (holidays excepted).
The ATEP Resource Library policy is based on the Queen's University Library System policy.
The following additions to the general library policy apply to the ATEP Resource Library. This policy is dated August 2003.
Signing Books Out
You must be a member of the Aboriginal Teacher Education Resource Centre in order to sign out books. To be a member you must be and show proof of being a member of Queen's community. This includes students, staff, teachers and ATEP alumni. ATEP teachers, students and staff will have priority for books in that order. We may call individuals to return books when ATEP students/teachers request them.
Becoming a Member
Each member must fill out a membership card (including student number if applicable). They must sign the back which states, "I hereby agree to obey all of the ATEP library rules, to pay fines for the injury or loss of materials and to give immediate notice of any change of address or telephone number." The title card will be held in the due date file. A title card with the due date stamped on it will remain in the book.
Borrowing Books
Borrowers can sign out a maximum of four books at a time. Lending time is three weeks. Videos, tapes and music CD's can only be signed out by teachers.
Returning Books
Books must be returned on or before the due date. They are to be returned to the Program Assistant
Re-shelving
No books should be re-shelved. There is a box on the floor in which materials taken from shelves should be deposited.
Late Books
We will check on the due date for resources due and anyone who has an overdue resource will be sent a notice including the amount of the fine to date. The amount will be payable to Queen's University, ATEP Resource Centre. The borrower will be asked to pay the amount and bring/send the material back as soon as possible.
Fine for late books is TBD
The Library mails (preferably by email) only one overdue notice. This notice is sent after an item's due date. No other fine/fee notices are mailed. The overdue notice is sent as a courtesy to remind borrowers of a missed due date; failure to receive a notice does not absolve a borrower of the responsibility to return or renew materials promptly.
Lost or Badly Damaged Books
If member has lost or badly damaged a resource, they will pay the resource(s) replacement value. The member will be notified by letter of the replacement value and will be expected to pay promptly. The amount will be payable to Queen's University, ATEP Resource Library.
Note: Student fine/fee accounts totaling more than $5.00 are reported to the Central ATEP office, thus impact immediately on the student's overall financial account with the University.
