The policies of the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program are discussed in this handbook. ATEP policies are intended to supplement Queen's University and Faculty of Education policies outlined in the Faculty of Education Calendar and on the web at:
The handbook is divided into four major sections. The first two chapters of this document provide a more general discussion of the development and features of the policies. Those wishing to see a quick overview of the policies should skip immediately to Academic Policies, and should also consult the Practicum Handbook for their community-based site, as well as the ATEP Library Policy.
Chapter 1, "The Importance of Policies in General," is intended to convince stakeholders, especially students, of the usefulness and importance of policies for dealing with complex situations involving many parties. In particular, policies help maintain fairness and uniformity from student to student and from year to year.
Chapter 2, "Policies in Community-Based Education," contains a brief discussion of the importance of policies in community-based program administration.
Chapter 3, "Academic Policies," contains a discussion of the general features of the ATEP Academic Policies followed by the details of the actual policies, and is divided into sections regarding policies implemented by instructors, staff, and other University officials. Teacher Candidates should read all three sections because all policies affecting others in the program affect Teacher Candidates as well.
The appendix contains references to other relevant policy documents.
